Role/ Department:
The Capital Markets Chief Admin Offices comprises the Risk, Resiliency, and Regulatory Change teams. This role sits within the Reg Change and oversight team and is responsible for regulatory identification, impact assessment, and consultative support on the implementation of regulations which impact the products and services provided by the Capital Markets businesses to institutional clients.
The team has responsibility for providing centralised oversight of reporting, implementation, and escalation for all regulations impacting Capital Markets.
As an individual contributor, the ideal candidate will provide guidance and delivery to the future of Regulatory requirements of the Capital Markets business at Northern Trust.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
* Reviews, disseminates, and interprets laws and regulations, and works to proactively establish and document related policies, procedures, and standards.
* Assist and support the Markets business in ensuring that the Firm's governance and internal control structures remain effective and compliant with all applicable regulations.
* Verifies that activities meet federal, state, and/or local legal and regulatory requirements and regulations, and monitors outcomes/risk levels for the organization or assigned area.
* Communicates and provides risk avoidance advice and requirements to managers and appropriate personnel.
* Identifies situations which pose significant risk and guides management in developing policies and/or procedures that minimize risk.
* Serves on internal and external groups to provide and receive advice on industry trends.
* Is a technical expert with in-depth knowledge of risk avoidance and compliance.
* Strategic in developing, implementing, and administering risk programs within functional areas. Act as a key advisor ensuring consistent and well-supported regulatory guidance.
* Support ad hoc markets projects and provide leadership coverage for the regulatory change team.
* Strengthen the Firm's risk management culture by actively engaging stakeholders and promoting best practices.
Skills/ Qualifications:
The successful candidate will benefit from having:
* Experience in a regulatory change or compliance role within a regulated financial services firm, or transferable experience in risk management, legal, audit, or governance.
* In depth knowledge of regulations, federal, state, and local laws and regulations acquired through formal education and work experience is required.
* Strong communication skills are necessary to consult with partners/clients, and analyze information, and apply regulations with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
* Familiarity with EU and UK regulatory landscape, including regulatory developments to FSMA, MIFID, EMIR, Conduct, governance structures, or prudential risk management.
* Analytical mindset with the ability to assess regulatory risks and contribute to compliance solutions.
* Experience with regulatory change monitoring horizon scanning, impact assessments, regulatory reporting, and/or governance frameworks.
* Remain informed regarding market conditions, regulatory developments, and industry best practices.
* Foster a culture of risk awareness and ensure adherence to firm-wide risk management policies and frameworks.
* Take ownership of identifying and escalating risk events while ensuring proper incident management procedures.
* Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and proactively within a high-performing team.
