We are looking for an experienced and dynamic children’s social worker to join our Children’s Safeguarding Standards Unit as a Social Worker within the Access to Records Team.
You will work closely with people that wish to access their records. The role requires an ability to build effective, open, and honest working relationships with those seeking to understand more about their past involvement with children’s social care. Providing this information can be life changing. It can provide vital life story information and understanding that is essential for establishing a sense of self and identity. The process requires an ability to understand people’s readiness to receive information and ensuring necessary supports are in place.
The role also supports a range of other information access requests, such as assisting social workers from other authorities access records held in Newcastle or supporting information sharing required for police enquiries. The role requires a robust understanding of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and an ability to work with others across the Local Authority to ensure information is shared in line with legislation and guidance.
We want social workers that bring a comprehensive knowledge and skill-base to their work with children, young people and families. You must be driven and ambitious, both for yourself and for children, young people and families. You must also be an enthusiastic team player who understands the vital role of supportive teams.
In return we will support you to succeed. As an organisation we are committed to providing our staff with the opportunities they need to develop and progress at all stages of their career. At Newcastle we offer a comprehensive range of training opportunities and professional development through professional supervision, mentoring and a strong management programme to grow and enhance your skills. We are a cosmopolitan city, and our children and families reflect the diversity and vibrancy of our city. We are a city that embraces innovation and change, and we can offer you exciting and rewarding practice opportunities.
You will receive:
1. A dedicated 5-day induction
2. Generous annual leave in addition to Bank Holidays with the ability to buy additional leave annually
3. A range of flexible working options
4. A generous Flexi Scheme
5. Access to Mindfulness sessions and other wellbeing initiatives
6. Access to a generous, defined benefit pension scheme
7. Access to home electronics and car leasing schemes
8. Generous relocation package
For an informal discussion about the role please contact Stafford Devine, Service Manager, Children’s Safeguarding Standards Unit (CSSU) on 0191 2774636 or email cssuadmin@newcastle.gov.uk.
We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.
