Job overview
This post is a key part of our Research Office team at GMMH, leading on grant support for the Trust, including costing, contracting and ongoing management. The postholder will be a senior member of the Research Office and will be responsible for the operational management of staff, overseeing the grant process, including grant applications, contracting and set up. The postholder will ensure that there are robust systems in place for accurate and timely research project notification and approval, and that such projects meet all the necessary research governance and regulatory requirements for the Trust to host and/or sponsor them. They will liaise with researchers, finance teams, funders and external sites to ensure efficient costing and set-up of grant applications, and that all necessary contractual arrangements are in place. They will take a lead on ensuring that treatment costs are accurately captured and recovered, and on ensuring that intellectual property is clearly identified and protected.
Main duties of the job
* Oversight of the grants process, including grant applications, contracting and set-up
* Liaison with researchers, research teams, finance teams, funders and external organisations.
* Reviewing applications for regulatory approval, including IRAS forms and amendments.
* Overseeing processes for capturing and recovering excess treatment costs and service support costs.
* Leading on intellectual property processes within the Trust.
* Managing a team of staff within the Research Office.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Educated to Masters level or equivalent relevant experience
Experience
* Experience of working within a clinical research environment (NHS or university)
* Experience of supporting research grant applications and completing SoECATs
* Experience of setting up research contracts with funders and collaborators
* Project management experience, including dealing with complex situations requiring analysis and interpretation.
* Experience of developing and maintaining comprehensive and systematic systems for collecting and processing information.
* Experience of managing staff
Knowledge
* In depth knowledge of NHS research funding streams
* Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the standards and legislation that govern research practice in the NHS.
* Knowledge of the regulatory issues surrounding the conduct of clinical research.
* Knowledge of databases and their implementation and management
Skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a busy team.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Evidence of strong prioritisation and organisational skills, and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation of highly complex information and report writing skills.
* Attention to detail when reviewing costings, documents, and writing reports.
* Ability to deal with interruptions to tasks.
* Confidence in making decisions when dealing with competing priorities.
* An ability to interact appropriately with colleagues
* Good presentation skills in both formal and informal settings
Other requirements
* There may be an occasional requirement to travel across Greater Manchester for meetings.
