About the role
We are currently seeking a reliable and dedicated individual who has experience of animal management within education. This is a fast-paced and diverse role, in which you will work closely with Program Leaders, the area Manager and other Animal Care Technicians to provide the best care for our variety of animals. A fundamental part of this role is to support the overarching curriculum of the animal care department. Responsibilities include setting up areas for practical lessons, supporting staff and students within the practical area, and maintaining high standards of welfare for all animals on site.
Other key duties include:
* Providing animal husbandry (cleaning, feeding, watering, providing enrichment, and enclosure maintenance).
* Ensuring practical areas are fully resourced and ready for use in teaching and learning lessons.
* Assisting and providing tours and demonstrations to designated groups and visitors.
* Supervising students from level 1 to 6 within Animal Care working on the practical unit.
* Maintaining animal health records.
* Stock taking and supporting the maintenance of stock records and accurate record keeping.
* Assisting with the running of the two on-site businesses.
About the person
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills with a focus on the day-to-day care of animals. Candidates should also have:
* Level 2/GCSE English and Maths (or willingness to work towards).
* Level 2 or higher qualification (or willingness to work towards) in a related area.
* Experience of working in an animal establishment.
