MID Cheshire NHS Trust has an exciting opportunity for a Surgical First Assistant to join our Orthopaedic team.
You will work closely with the rest of the team to ensure the delivery of care within our organisation, providing expert clinical assistance and support to the patient, consultant surgeons, junior medical and theatre staff involved in Orthopaedic surgery.
As a registered Nurse/ODP, you will have significant Orthopaedic experience and will be expected to provide expert surgical assistance to Consultant Surgeons, junior medical staff, theatre staff, and patients involved in Orthopaedics to ensure the provision of safe patient-centred care.
Main duties of the job
As a Surgical First Assistant (SFA), the post holder will provide continuous competent and dedicated assistance under the direct supervision of the operating surgeon throughout the procedure, whilst not performing any form of surgical intervention. The SFA is provided as an additional member of the surgical team within clearly defined parameters, in accordance with the local clinical governance framework.
The post holder will work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families/carers and take an active part in line management, leadership, and development of the team.
This position is suitable for an experienced registered nurse / ODP who has demonstrated a high level of clinical achievement and clinical excellence, wishing to expand their sphere of skills, responsibilities, and influence in a specialist area.
