Key responsibilities of the role: Assist qualified mechanics with repairs and maintenance tasks - you will need to be p hysically able Learn and develop skills in vehicle diagnostics, servicing and repair Maintain a clean and organised workspace Provide excellent customer service and support Complete coursework and training requirements for apprenticeship programme Daily tasks (as the apprentice you will be trained in this, you are not expected to know the below already): Diagnostic testing Maintenance Servicing Basic knowledge of tools and equipment operations Problem solving skills Customer care and relations Changing parts and components like tyres, filters Cleaning vehicles once work has been completed to ensure it is returned to the customer tidy Other day to day mechanical tasks and workshop safety Skills Communication skills Teamwork skills Be able to work individually as well as in a team Able to work in a fast-paced environment Personal qualities Strong work ethic Willingness to learn Passionate about cars and mechanics Qualifications GCSE 9-3/A-D or Functional Skills Level 1 in English and maths. Proof of certificates is required. The above are entry requirements of the apprenticeship. You will study to gain a Functional Skills Level 2 in maths and English, if you do not already hold GCSE 9-4/A-C/ Functional Skills Level 2 in English and maths. Please note: after Level 2 if you wish to progress to Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician - Light Vehicle you will need to already have GCSE 9-4/A-C/ Functional Skills Level 2 in English and maths OR do maths and English to Functional Skills Level 2 during the Level 2 Autocare Technician apprenticeship. What does the programme include? This apprenticeship will focus on light vehicle diagnostic processes, fault finding and equipment as well as industry relevant skills and training for example apprentices will practice: Inspecting Light Vehicles using prescribed methods Maintaining a healthy and safe workplace, including the maintenance of key equipment and carrying out general housekeeping Use specific company IT systems within the workplace, including Point-of-sale systems and hand-held devices. Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers and colleagues Access vehicle technical data to inform inspections and make judgements on wear and serviceability On completion of this Standard the Autocare Technician will be eligible to apply for IMI membership as a Registered Young Professional or if they wish as an Associate Member. They would also gain entry onto the IMI Professional Register. What attendance is required? Attendance at College will be required on weekly on a weekday. Time spent training will come under the working hours per week. Your Apprenticeship Liaison Officer will liaise with you to set up mutually convenient times for consultation and assessment visits at your place of work. It is a Government requirement for you to spend 6 hours a week working towards your “Off the Job Learning” – off the job learning can consist of college attendance, coursework, project related work, employer training, mentoring and coaching. Learning and assessment Apprentices build a portfolio of work and your Apprenticeship Liaison Officer will be in regular contact to provide support, and to arrange on-site visits to observe the apprentices’ ability and skills in their daily role. It is important for the apprentice to take ownership of their own learning by seeking out opportunities to gain new skills on the job with the employer. The apprentice’s final grade will be determined by the collective assessments known as “the end point assessment” and has a Pass/Distinction grade. The three assessments are: Online knowledge based tests Skills test (knowledge and behaviours are observed in the workp lace) Professional discussion (apprentice is to demonstrate that they can apply the broad range of knowledge, skills and behaviours in the Standard) Future prospects Upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship, and subject to progress as an employee, Castle Body Works would like to offer you a full time job. They will pay for your progression to MOT tester as well as o ther add on qualifications.
