The process operator is to receive and process incoming waste material ensuring that it is compliant with the permitted waste types in order to feed the plant accordingly, maximising energy output and cost effectiveness by smooth operation of the plant.
The day-to-day activities include:
1. Operating de-packaging machinery consistently to optimise the dry solids for the type of waste received and plant Key Performance Indicators (KPI's).
2. Safely and effectively tipping trailers of waste.
3. Managing and improving the cleanliness of the reception hall, 'pads' and overall site.
4. Maintaining equipment effectively including greasing and routine maintenance checks, and reporting any equipment defects or lack of resources to the Engineering Manager.
5. Any other duties assigned by the Operations and Process Lead.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
1. Adhere to the Site Health & Safety policy in all work activities.
2. Receive and process all types of waste vehicles including inspection of the loads.
3. Review loads that arrive with a view of acceptance before paperwork is signed and when vehicles are to leave site. (If unsure, ask).
4. Contain and clear any spillages on site in an efficient and safe manner when required.
5. Achieve acceptable levels of materials processed, based on the waste delivered and daily KPI's for the plant.
6. Ensure vehicles leave the Reception Hall and pit discharge point to the required hygiene standard.
7. Conduct daily & weekly clean down and simple maintenance processes, logging them on the specified paperwork if required.
8. Workplace organisation & housekeeping in the Reception Hall and around the site.
9. Ensure provisions are in place to allow adherence to VET & EA requirements (i.e., footbaths always in operation, no food waste is spilt outside the reception hall, not accepting food waste where the EWC code does not feature on our permitted list, doors not left open for prolonged periods, etc.).
10. Complete daily Mechanical Handling Equipment checks on all vehicles.
11. Ensure the packaging waste within the Reception Hall goes into the correct streams for the daily skip movements (i.e., landfill, recycling, etc.).
12. Support and monitor the digestate transfer operation as required.
13. Report any issues, shortages, and problems to the correct lead.
14. Undertake any course of instruction necessary to obtain or maintain the required skill level for this role.
15. Ensure good time keeping and punctuality is maintained at an acceptable level.
16. Undertake such other activities as may reasonably be required from time to time and which are within the competency of the job holder.
