The role
Pass on your skills & experience to the students of RADA and join our busy Costume Department. We are looking for an experienced Theatre Costume Professional to share in the training of our technical theatre students and to participate in the preparation of the public shows at RADA.
The successful applicant will be jointly responsible for the teaching of the 1st and 2nd year students on the Post Graduate Costume Course and the Technical Theatre and Stage Management FDA and BA courses.
The successful applicant will be required to supervise RADA public shows or mentor students in that role. They will also run a teaching day, showing the TTSM students basic sewing, both hand and machine. Strong making skills and knowledge of the history of costume are very beneficial to the role.
Knowledge in hair and make-up is also beneficial, and overseeing the students in their show-running duties is a large part of the job, as well as mentoring the students in their preparation for moving into the industry.
The hours are varied and include evening and weekend work, but are based on a 37.5 hours a week with time taken off in lieu of overtime worked. The courses run in three terms of between 11 and 13 weeks.
The role requires a committed, self-motivated person who works well in a team and can lead diplomatically, confidently and with care and attention to furthering RADA’s goals of creating dedicated, confident and skilled Theatre Professionals.

The Team
The costume department consists of the Head of Costume, Deputy Head of Costume/Tutor, and an Assistant. During this period of maternity leave, the team will consist of two tutors and an Assistant with overall leadership provided by the Director of Technical Training.
