PLC Programmer Job Description
Solent Automation & Robotics is a Robotics Automation company located in the Portsmouth area.
We are looking to hire a skilled PLC programmer to design and install controller system software for our clients. You will be developing existing code, creating new programs, writing and installing custom programmable logic code, testing system efficiency, traveling to clients' locations for commission of machines or for service, analysing system requirements, and providing operational support.
The successful PLC programmer will have substantial experience with and excellent knowledge of PLCs, a logical approach to problem solving, documentation skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
PLC Programmer Responsibilities:
1. PLC code creation, debug and/or development.
2. Create and implement safety logic using safety PLCs.
3. Participate in FDS (Functional Description Specification) creation.
4. Create documentation to demonstrate how processes will work.
5. Design machine automation test criteria before installation.
6. Design and document testing systems for debugging, safety, and reliability.
7. Troubleshooting system errors.
8. Overseeing the successful installation of PLC and Robot programs.
9. Traveling to clients' locations, meeting with clients to discuss their mechanical or electrical automation needs and/or providing clients with technical support.
10. Documenting development processes.
PLC Programmer Requirements:
1. Bachelor's degree in software engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a similar field.
2. Detailed knowledge of PLC automation software and coding languages.
3. At least 3 years experience as a PLC programmer.
4. PLC technical certification preferred.
5. Experience with Robotics (Fanuc preferred).
6. Experience in the automation industry.
7. In-depth knowledge of manufacturing and control processes.
8. Knowledge of software design principles.
9. Knowledge of Fanuc programming: TP and Karel.
10. Knowledge of IT: Servers and Workstations configuration.
11. Knowledge of IT programming languages: C#, VB.
12. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
13. Driving licence and ability to travel when required.
Specific Skills:
1. Mechanical knowledge:
* Robotics.
* Pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
* Mechanical actuators like Motors and Servo motors.
* Sensors technology.
1. Electrical Schematic drawings:
* Read and interpret Electrical Schematics.
2. Software Programming:
* Control systems theory.
* Rockwell/ Allan Bradley (Siemens and other PLC brands knowledge is welcome).
* Knowledge of Safety PLCs (SICK preferred).
* Knowledge of SCADA and HMIs.
* Creation of test routines for commission and debugging.
* Prepare necessary procedures for a successful FAT/SAT.
* Knowledge of programming standards.
* Knowledge of safety regulations.
3. Other Skills:
* Organization: Capability to work on several projects simultaneously.
* Familiar with task management software to track project completion.
* Complex problem-solving skills.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Follow company coding practices, reinforcing standardization.
* Produce documentation related to the work done.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to £55,000.00 per year
