We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to work on a hybrid basis from one of our depots. This role is covering the South East, Midlands, and North regions so will require frequent travel.
The Role:
Reporting in to our Senior Commercial Manager. you will be responsible for leading commercial aspects of our project portfolio across defined regions. Working with our operational teams to ensure profitability and compliance with contractual obligations. You will work closely with project teams, clients, and stakeholders to drive commercial success across your designated regions.
You will also, where required, lead the preparation of bids and tenders, ensuring competitive pricing, alignment with project specifications and we are able to manage and mitigate contract requirements. Provide the connection between the work winning team and the live projects team, providing key commercial guidance throughout the process. Analyse and evaluation subcontractor tenders, proposals and contracts. Provide support and guidance to members of the win work community.
Key Responsibilities:
* Able to review Subcontract’s predominantly NEC4, experience with Term Maintenance Contract’s would be an advantage. The ability to identify key commercial liabilities.
* Undertake an analysis of the rates and overall quotation of works to ensure profitability and ensure this margin is maintained throughout the lifecycle of the project.
* Set out clear month end processes to ensure that applications and billing are prompt and accruals and contingencies are accurate.
* Monitor and report project performance against ‘as bid’, forecasts, and financial performance through the effective use of cost value reporting (CVR) and highlight aspects to improve.
* Work closely with Depot, Regional Managers and Project Managers to ensure that we optimise profitability, cash performance and manage change.
* Assess and mitigate commercial risks associated with projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
* Review commercial bid strategies with actual project execution and report recommendations for improvement.
* Prepare regular reports on commercial performance, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
* Lead negotiations with clients to resolve commercial disputes.
* Secure favourable terms in contracts with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors, ensuring they align with the company’s financial and operational goals and governance requirements.
* Achieve and maintain profitability on all projects by effectively managing budgets, costs, and financial performance.
* Build and sustain strong relationships with clients, resulting in high levels of client satisfaction and repeat business.
* Identify and secure new business opportunities, contributing to the growth and expansion of the company.
* Effectively identify and manage commercial risks, ensuring compliance with industry standards and minimizing potential liabilities.
* Lead and develop a high-performing commercial team with improved employee engagement results.
* Timely and accurate reports on commercial performance, offering insights and recommendations to senior management for strategic decision-making.
* Continuously seek ways to improve processes, enhance efficiency, and work with colleagues to bring innovation to our clients.
The Ideal Candidate:
* Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Business Administration, or a related field.
* Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a commercial management role within the highways or civil engineering sector covering a variety of Forms of Contract.
* Familiar with NEC4 forms of contract
* Experience with CEMAR’s change notification
* Strong understanding of contracts, commercial principles, and legal frameworks.
* Proven track record in managing project budgets and achieving financial targets.
* Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* Professional qualifications such as MRICS or equivalent are desirable.
