Professional To undertake managerial responsibility for a team of nurses and support staff, providinghigh quality 24 hour patient care in the most efficient and safe manner in accordance with Divisional and Trust policies and guidelines, in the absence of Band 7/Matron. To undertake the supervision and direction of junior staff, nursing support workers and learners. Clinical To demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge and practice and act as a role model at all times. In the absence of the Lead Nurse, maintain clinical leadership, working closely with the multidisciplinary team. Management To provide professional leadershipof the nursing team on a shift by shift basis, ensuring appropriate staff allocation and skill-mix, managing of cot availability and service provision. To establish and maintain effective communication channels within and outside the department by: Promoting teamwork and inter-personal relationships and encouraging others in the decision making process and attend regular unit meetings and participating in Divisional Directorate forums as required Education Demonstrate responsibility for professional development To be responsible for continuing assessment of performance and the identification of development needs of the team members Personnel To participate in the appointment of staff within the nursing team.
