Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Locum Specialty Doctor to join our multidisciplinary team within the General Medicine department. This role is focused on providing high-quality care to patients with a wide range of complex medical conditions, including those related to Elderly Care, Respiratory Medicine, Acute Medicine, Stroke, and Rheumatology. The successful candidate will work alongside consultants, junior doctors, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care in both acute and long-term settings.
This is an excellent opportunity for doctors with expertise in multiple specialties, and those interested in managing patients with diverse medical needs across a broad spectrum of services.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
* Provide comprehensive medical assessment, diagnosis, and management for patients with acute and chronic conditions across General Medicine, Elderly Care, Respiratory, Acute Medicine, Stroke, and Rheumatology.
* Manage elderly patients with complex medical, physical, and social needs, ensuring holistic and individualized care plans.
* Diagnose and treat a variety of respiratory conditions, including but not limited to COPD, asthma, pneumonia, and interstitial lung diseases.
* Take a leading role in the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of stroke patients, including acute management and post-stroke care.
* Provide acute medical care for critically ill patients across various specialties.
* Prescribe and manage pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments for rheumatological conditions such as arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and musculoskeletal disorders.
* Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
* Support the transition of care for patients, ensuring effective discharge planning and follow-up care where appropriate.
Clinical Leadership:
* Supervise, mentor, and support junior doctors and medical trainees in their clinical duties.
* Provide guidance on the clinical management of complex cases across the specialties of General Medicine, Stroke, Rheumatology, Respiratory, and Elderly Care.
* Ensure adherence to clinical governance standards and participate in audits, clinical reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration:
* Work closely with consultants, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
* Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs) for stroke rehabilitation, rheumatology, and elderly care, offering valuable clinical insights and recommendations.
Acute & Emergency Care:
* Provide expert input and support in managing acutely ill patients admitted to the emergency department, acute medical unit (AMU), and stroke unit.
* Participate in the acute management of stroke patients, including the provision of thrombolytic therapy when appropriate, and the management of acute respiratory failure and rheumatological crises.
Teaching and Training:
* Take an active role in teaching medical students, junior doctors, and other healthcare professionals about the specialties of General Medicine, Stroke, Rheumatology, Respiratory, and Elderly Care.
* Contribute to educational programs, case discussions, and grand rounds within the department.
On-Call Duties:
* Provide on-call support for emergency and acute care services, particularly for stroke, respiratory, and rheumatological emergencies.
* Be available to provide expert medical advice in the management of acute medical conditions during on-call shifts.
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
* Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent).
* Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or equivalent medical regulatory body).
* MRCP (or equivalent) or appropriate post-graduate qualification.
* Clinical experience in the diagnosis and management of stroke patients, including acute stroke care and rehabilitation.
* Proficient in the management of common rheumatological conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, lupus, and other autoimmune diseases.
* Experience in acute medical settings, with an ability to manage critical patients across a variety of medical specialties.
* Evidence of involvement in multi-disciplinary care and collaborative management of complex cases.
Skills & Abilities:
* Clinical Expertise: Ability to independently manage patients with complex conditions in General Medicine, Respiratory, Stroke, Rheumatology, and Elderly Care.
* Team Collaboration: Excellent team player with the ability to work effectively across disciplines.
* Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex medical issues to patients, families, and colleagues.
* Leadership and Teaching: Ability to supervise and mentor junior staff, as well as provide teaching and training.
* Decision-Making: Strong clinical judgment with the ability to make swift, evidence-based decisions in acute and high-pressure situations.

Pay: £65.00-£85.00 per hour
