About the Clinic
This friendly independent equine clinic has been providing dedicated care to horses for over 20 years. The clinic is a busy, independent, equine-only veterinary practice that prides itself on offering a full range of at-the-yard and clinic-based services to its loyal and long-standing client base. With a team of 5.5 FTE vets, 2 RVNs, and 4 support staff, the clinic is well-equipped to provide high-quality care. The purpose-built clinic includes 6 stables, a surgical suite, a treatment room with stocks, areas for lameness assessments, and modern diagnostic treatments, including an objective gait analysis system.
About the Role
This senior/experienced Equine Vet role is integral to the practice, providing routine, advanced, and emergency services alongside senior and associate veterinary surgeons. The role involves working with a broad range of horses, including leisure horses, sports horses, thoroughbreds, and even the occasional donkey. Clinical cases in this role are varied, interesting, and, where possible, allocated based on the vets areas of interest. As an independent practice with its own facilities, the clinic gives its vets the freedom to work up cases, pass them on internally, or refer to external hospitals as they see fit.
Essential Skills
* Skilled in all areas of first opinion/ambulatory clinical work
* Capable of providing more involved procedures, such as poor performance/lameness, internal medicine, minor surgical/dental work, anaesthesia, and pre-purchase examinations (a combination of these skills is desirable)
* Enjoys mentoring and supporting less experienced veterinary surgeons and nurses in skill development
* Confident and empathetic in communication with both staff and clients
* Collaborative and proactive team player
* Experience in stud work is highly advantageous
Opportunities
This role offers opportunities to further develop clinical or managerial skills, with the potential to move towards a clinical director role if desired (but this is not essential).
