Job summary Lawford Surgery is looking for a healthcare assistant (HCA) to join the practice in this vital patient-facing role to cover both clinical and administrative responsibilities. The role is offered on a part-time basis for approximately 28 hours per week. The healthcare assistant role within general practice can be very different to the role within other settings and as such we are looking for applications from those with previous primary care experience. Main duties of the job Carry out base-line observations such as pulse, oximetry, temperature, blood pressure and blood glucose levels, recording findings accurately. Wound care, venepuncture, phlebotomy checks and administering of medicines and vaccines. Ensure that all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session. Update patient health records. Ensure that medical supplies are in stock. Act as a chaperone where required. Assist GP during the performance of minor operations. New patient health checks. Person Specification Qualifications Essential Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC. Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent. Experience Essential Experience of working within a GP practice. Strong clinical skills including venepuncture/phlebotomy. Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills. Confidential manner with a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.
