Do you share our health board values; Caring for each other; working together; always improving? If so, we would love for you to come and work for Swansea Bay University HB.
The Welsh Centre for Burns & Plastic Surgery at Morriston Hospital is looking for applications from LAS ST Higher (ST3+) doctors to cover a vacant post from 05/02/2025 to 05/08/2025 in the first instance.
The post is not recognised for training but the experience will be comparable to that of an ST Higher. Participation in educational programmes, audit, and research will be encouraged and supported.
The Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery in Morriston is regarded as one of the premier training centres for plastic surgery training in the UK, with close links to the academic plastic surgery research unit Recon Regen and Swansea University Medical School.
This post would be ideal for an ambitious trainee looking to gain further experience in plastic surgery in preparation for a future career in plastic surgery or a related specialty.
This is a full-time LAS ST Higher post participating in the Full shift rota. The plastic surgery service provides outreach services to nearly all the acute hospitals in S Wales, serving a population of 2.3M people. We are the only providers of plastic surgery located in Wales; the population of North Wales receives their services from units in North West England.
Main Duties of the Job
The facilities available in the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery are among the best in the UK, with 3 large operating theatres, a dedicated plastic surgery trauma theatre, a plastic surgery specialised observation ward (PSMU), an adult elective plastic surgery ward, an adult admissions unit with 18 beds, children's beds, and a paediatric HDU for tertiary surgical services. There is a plastic surgical outpatient and dressings suite and dedicated occupational, physio, and speech & language therapy departments. The burns centre is exceptional, with 2 dedicated operating theatres; a 10 bed burns ITU/HDU, a 10 bed adult low dependency/rehabilitation ward for adults, a 10 bed children's ward, and rehabilitation and outreach services. There is a dedicated Plastics Surgery Treatment Centre located adjacent to the elective ward that provides planned day case treatment via 2 operating rooms. The Clinical Plastic Surgery Unit has recently collaborated with Swansea University to form The Reconstructive Surgery & Regenerative Medicine Research Unit (ReconRegen), located across two main sites: The Institute of Life Science at Swansea University and The European Centre for Nanohealth (Wales' premier purpose-built £50 million medical research facility) and a research suite at The Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery (ABM University Health Board).
