Day Electrical Engineer Opportunity at Prestigious University Site
Our client is seeking a Day Electrical Engineer for a prestigious university site, providing an excellent opportunity for valuable experience and career progression. We are looking for a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) Engineer who can operate independently within the electrician trade and collaborate with General Maintenance Assistants as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver comprehensive repair and maintenance services for systems, plant, and equipment across all university buildings.
2. Work on a rotational schedule, with possible shifts between 6 am – 7 pm, Monday to Friday.
3. Execute tasks safely and effectively, following safety legislation, manufacturers' manuals, and KUSCO Health & Safety Procedures.
4. Conduct diagnostic and fault-finding tasks.
5. Maintain and update asset registers.
6. Perform statutory, mandatory, planned preventative, and reactive maintenance.
7. Accurately interpret instructions, drawings, and specifications.
8. Assist in setting out new work, identifying materials for ordering, and collecting relevant tools and equipment.
9. Undertake a wide range of duties, including those outside the primary trade area.
10. Utilize hand and power tools, measuring instruments, and equipment within safety guidelines.
11. Plan and execute maintenance work on systems, plant, equipment, and buildings, ensuring satisfactory operation upon completion.
12. Conduct inspections for pre-installations and investigate services required for new equipment and minor installation improvement works.
13. Conduct site-based surveys and report defects to the appropriate manager.
14. Prepare plant and equipment for independent insurance inspection for compliance with statutory regulations.
15. Acquire skills in other trades and perform various tasks with suitable training.
16. Oversee the work of service contractors occasionally.
17. Liaise with the Asset Manager regarding plant, equipment, and building fabric failures, requesting the supply of goods and services as needed.
18. Work in hazardous areas, confined spaces, and on contaminated equipment using appropriate protective equipment and safety measures.
19. Instruct others on aspects of the work.
20. Complete daily individual administration tasks, including the timely completion of works/job dockets/tickets and logbooks.
21. Utilize relevant software systems, including PDAs, CAFM system, BMS, work permit system, and ordering system with proper training.
22. Assist with emergency work when requested, including outside normal working hours.
23. Support the induction and training of new starters, apprentices, and maintenance staff as part of a personal development program.
24. Use equipment such as ladders and scaffolding as required.
Qualifications:
1. Completed an apprenticeship in Electrical or obtained an equivalent NVQ/C&G Level 3.
2. Knowledge of Emergency Lighting Fundamentals and Maintenance.
3. 17th Edition qualification with a willingness to undertake the 18th Edition.
4. Basic knowledge of Health and Safety issues related to the Construction Industry.
Skills:
1. Sound knowledge of building maintenance and electrical systems.
2. Ability to record detailed and accurate repair information.
3. Proficient in using mobile electronic equipment (handhelds).
