To be successful as a Senior Database Engineer, you should have:
1. Experience as a Principal Level Database Administrator, focusing on PostgreSQL and similar database technologies such as Oracle or MS-SQL.
2. Experience with DevOps automation tools including code versioning (Git), JIRA, Ansible, Containers, and Kubernetes (OpenShift).
3. In-depth knowledge of database CI/CD tools and their implementation.
4. Proven expertise as a subject matter expert in PostgreSQL, serving as the highest level of technical escalation for complex database issues.
5. A track record of managing database engineering teams.
6. Highly valued skills may include cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP), experience in a financial environment, and familiarity with system configuration management tools such as Chef or Ansible for database server configurations.
7. Solid experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation and migration tasks.
8. Key critical skills relevant for success, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and expertise in digital and technology.
