Role Overview:
The Talent Set is working with a fantastic Membership Organisation as they search for a Media and Communications Officer to support them on an initial 6-month FTC.
This position offers the opportunity to engage in high-impact media activities, including drafting press releases, managing media enquiries, and supporting senior spokespeople for national broadcast appearances.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Draft press releases, op-eds, statements, articles, and social media content for national and trade media outlets.
2. Handle daily media enquiries, arrange interviews, and brief journalists on key issues.
3. Develop and support communications strategies for C-suite and member events.
4. Organise media-focused events such as press conferences and roundtables.
5. Arrange and prepare spokespeople for TV, radio, and print interviews with detailed briefing materials.
6. Build relationships with media contacts, internal departments, and key external stakeholders.
7. Develop creative content for social channels (including X/Twitter and LinkedIn).
8. Assist with media-related administrative duties and participate in the out-of-hours press office rota.
Person Specification:
1. Proven experience in media relations, journalism, social media, or public affairs.
2. Understanding of national, regional, and digital media landscapes.
3. Awareness of business, economic, and political current affairs.
4. Strong creative writing and storytelling skills.
5. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Sound news judgement and political awareness.
7. Ability to manage competing deadlines under pressure.
8. Self-motivated with a collaborative approach to teamwork.
9. Flexibility and problem-solving capability.
10. Willingness to participate in out-of-hours media support.
