When was the last time you saw the direct impact of your work? As Editorial Assistant you will be at the heart of the Open University Press Portfolio team supporting the publication of resources that are at the cutting edge of higher education and professional development.
Reporting to the Head of Product, and in support of our Commissioning Editors, you’ll help plan and execute editorial processes, develop content, and ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget. Strong project management, attention to detail, and digital literacy are key for managing content delivery as well as the internal/external partnerships you will foster and maintain. As Editorial Assistant you’ll not only handle essential administrative and development tasks but also have the opportunity to contribute to special projects that expand your expertise and elevate our offering.

How can you make an impact:
1. Project Management: Support the Open University Press editorial team, managing approximately 15-35 frontlist titles annually, coordinating meetings, tracking progress, and ensuring on-time delivery.
2. Provide author and editor support, manage correspondence and contracts, and assist with research. Collaborate with editors to prepare manuscripts for production, ensuring efficient project management and editorial content development. Support portfolio owners with pipeline and ongoing project activities.
3. Manage timely reviews, maintaining a reviewer log and payment system. Conduct reviewer research and follow up on outstanding reviews, ensuring efficient proposal evaluation and manuscript clearance.
4. Manage project tracking documents and all activities essential to supporting the product portfolio publication strategy. Facilitate author meetings and monitor progress. Provide project status updates to portfolio owners and Head of Product. Ensure timely communication of delivery dates, titles, and financial updates across the company.
5. Manage proposal processes including 'signings packs', financials sign-off, contract administration and author/contributor/reviewer payments.
6. Vendor Management: Process invoices and payments for vendors/contractors in a timely manner.
7. Market research and copy: Co-ordinate back-cover copy, curate cover designs as well as undertake market research and analysis in support of commissioning strategy. Contribute to Open University Press social media channels with relevant content to boost engagement.
What you’ll need to be successful:
1. Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience in publishing or a related role within the industry.
2. Familiarity with the learning sciences/education or publishing industry preferred.
3. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
4. Excellent communication and proactive problem-solving abilities.
5. Digital proficiency, including Microsoft Suite, CRM software, and social media platforms.
6. Working knowledge of digital/cloud platforms for content management and authoring.
