I am looking for a Senior Female Personal Care Assistant experienced working as a PA in community Continuing Healthcare roles, required to join a small private team of 3 people (including employer), caring for a lady with complex mental health and physical needs.
The role is working in the employer’s home and needs someone with a warm, calm and positive approach, who enjoys doing simple activities (gardening, crafts, art), able to work independently and as part of a team. A flexible individual to provide both physical assistance and companionship. Be capable of supporting the client in moments of extreme distress, be a quiet and patient companion when needed, but also muck in with a good sense of humour and quick wit on active days.
The client has a large assistance dog (in training) so it is a must that any applicants are confident with dogs and will enjoy helping client with dog training.
Key Duties include:
• To provide emotional support, companionship promoting wellbeing and independence.
• To support activities inside and outside the home, for example gardening, walking dog, shopping, tidying or attending medical appointments.
• To support with their medication.
• To assist with personal hygiene
• To assist with mobility (Manual Handling) including use of wheelchairs.
• To be aware of falls/ seizure risk and maintain a safe environment.
• To assist with dressing, choice of clothes and personal appearance.
• To support mental wellbeing, calm challenging behaviour and moments of stress.
• To support client care for and train support dog.
• Other duties as required.
Requirements
- NVQ3 or diploma in health and social care level 3. Individuals will be required to complete regular training provided by employer.
- Experience working with clients with mental health diagnoses and autism, adaptable to unpredicted situations.
- Exceptional communication and listening skills, non-judgemental, patience, understanding with the desire to improve someone's quality of life.
- Demonstrate resilience with an awareness of triggers and managing some behaviours that challenge.
- Knowledge or experienced in working with NEAD and FND preferred, but training will be provided.
- Experienced working in a home environment, with an understanding of associated health and safety requirements. Confident in managing emergency situations.
- Demonstratable leadership behaviours, able to work independently and as part of a team. Mentor and support other team members.
- Good understanding of patient/ client confidentiality and able to provide examples of best practice.
