Description As a Laboratory Technician you will carry out general laboratory maintenance and routine, daily tasks. Assist with the various ecotoxicology testing carried out on site. Able to work to a high standard and work closely with others as part of a team. Assist in field work and in other areas as required. The role of Laboratory Technician will be expected to provide a high standard of technical laboratory work, in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations, within the Environmental team and in accordance with NOV Strategy and Business objectives. You will also be expected to assist with nominated ecotoxicology and environmental fate studies as directed by senior members of staff. Your responsibilities will include the maintenance and repairs of laboratory equipment, systems and infrastructure within the Environmental laboratory located in Flotta, Orkney. Key to this role is your ability to liaise closely with and support other laboratory staff members and to work as a team member. You will be keen to take on fresh challenges, and where appropriate, participate in the improvement of technical practices and method development. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Carry out laboratory work and general tasks as directed by the Environmental Unit Senior Staff Assist with nominated studies as directed by Study Directors and to ensure all laboratory duties are undertaken in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations Ensure laboratory facilities are maintained to GLP requirements at all times Participate with the maintenance and repairs of laboratory equipment, systems and infrastructure Ensure calibration of equipment is undertaken and maintained in a timely manner Maintain stock levels of equipment, materials and consumables Become involved with the improvement of technical practices and method development Assist with field work and in other areas as required Ensure a high standard of professionalism is maintained when representing NOV Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the work area and department Ensure personal compliance with all HSE legislation and HSE Company policy Be fully familiar and fully conversant with department and company policies, procedures and processes, ensuring all work and actions undertaken are in full compliance at all times Support other departments and carry out other duties as and when business requirements dictate as may be reasonably expected by line manager SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Able to understand, evaluate and apply technical information Capable of keeping abreast of an evolving portfolio of products and services Able to apportion time effectively to complete tasks Be willing to provide colleagues with the information they need to complete their tasks and eliminate obstacles Be quick to identify critical information and respond appropriately Can undertake multiple activities and resources to accomplish a goal Qualifications & Experience On-the-job training will be provided so previous experience isn’t essential, but desirable. School leavers/Career change will be fully considered for this role.
