Job Description:
IPS is hiring! We are looking for a talented Construction Manager to join our EMEA Project Delivery and Construction team, located in Birmingham UK.
The Construction Manager leads construction site activities, manages all field operations and takes primary responsibility for site safety.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assumes primary responsibility for all activities on assigned construction sites.
2. Leads field personnel to meet project goals. Assumes primary responsibility for site safety, and above all other objectives ensures achievement of safety objectives on assigned projects.
3. Ensures achievement of corporate goals for assigned projects.
4. Ensures projects meet applicable quality requirements.
5. Manages client interactions at site on assigned projects and promotes positive relationships.
6. Develops working knowledge of prime contract requirements and applies knowledge to project activities.
7. Supports the Project Manager in the development and maintenance of preconstruction, construction and closeout execution plans.
8. Supports the Project Manager in the development and maintenance of project schedules, including targeted and actual activities lists, durations and sequencing logic and communicates this information to the project team.
9. Develops a working knowledge of the project budget, and identifies exceptions to the project budget throughout execution of the project.
10. Supports the Project Manager in monitoring and reporting project costs.
11. Supports the Project Manager in the development of change control documentation and related financial documentation. Vigorously protects corporate positions.
12. Develops a thorough understanding of contractually required quality in design and construction, and oversees the work of subcontractors to ensure compliance with quality requirements.
13. Participates in constructability reviews of design documents.
14. Supports Project Manager in the procurement and coordination of all required extracorporate project resources. Writes scopes of work and assists in evaluation of bids and proposals.
15. Works with Project Manager to conduct pre-bid walk-through and descope meetings. Works with Project Manager to select subcontractors and vendors.
16. Supports the Project Manager in the evaluation of vendor and subcontractor invoices. Receives monthly invoices, evaluates requests for payment against actual performance, negotiates payments with subcontractors and coordinates payments with subcontractors.
17. Manages subcontractor and vendor change requests.
18. Facilitates communication between subcontractors, vendors and project personnel, and produces documentation of communication between project participants. Leads and coordinates the RFI process.
19. Personally makes periodic site inspections and evaluations and reports on the results of those inspections. Completes daily reports of site conditions, including weather, force levels and safety issues.
20. Completes job safety analysis documentation and other safety documentation as required by corporate safety program.
21. Conducts periodic coordination meetings with trade subcontractors at site.
22. Accumulates, evaluates and presents feedback information to Project Manager and/or Project Executive regarding errors and omissions in construction documents and performance of equipment, materials and systems.
23. Works with Document Control to ensure that all submittals are distributed, reviewed and stored to meet project and corporate requirements. Reviews submittals as necessary to meet project requirements.
24. Supports the Project Manager in ensuring compliance of project activities with legal and regulatory requirements.
25. Oversees startup activities if included in the project scope.
26. Oversees commissioning activities if included in the project scope.
27. Supports Project Managers and Executives in the preparation of proposals, presentations and other sales and marketing documents.
28. Maintains personal competency in relevant professional areas.
29. Special Projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline or an equivalent technical degree.
2. Extensive experience in Construction Management.
