Sterile Processing Assistant Durham, NC Title: Sterile Processing Assistant Schedule: Full -time The Triangle's premier Emergency and Specialty Hospitals are growing We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our surgery team. We provide 24 hour emergency service and specialty referrals in surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, and radiology and we're looking for assistants that want to grow in a fast paced, fun, and stimulating environment. We are currently seeking a full-time sterile processing assistant for 1st shift with our surgery department. This role functions with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility; sound judgment, excellent communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work both independently and with a team are required. Job Summary The Surgery Sterile Processing Assistant role is responsible for surgical decontamination and sterile processing. In addition to this role, the Sterile Processing Assistant is also responsible for the routine cleaning and husbandry of the surgery department ensuring that proper infectious disease protocols are followed, as well as assisting Anesthesia Technicians and Surgeons as necessary. Essential Job Functions Assist in set-up, break down and cleaning of the surgical suites Appropriately clean, wrap and sterilize surgical instruments Maintain surgical instruments and send out for repair as necessary Ensure adequate stocking of supplies in all ORs and the surgery preparation area Properly restrain patients for medical procedures such as placing IV catheters and intubating patients Understand and properly shave and prepare patients who are having surgical procedures Assist in positioning and acquisition of patient radiographs Perform routine patient care as directed by clinician or nurse including feeding, walking, providing water and clean bedding Assist surgeons and technicians with patient care and medical treatments Proactively assist team members when needed throughout the hospital daily when warranted Perform basic Cornerstone tasks such as entering patient vitals and completing patient treatments in Instinct Add items to the want list as supplies are needed Maintain orthopedic implant and other surgical supply inventory and contact department supervisor or surgery veterinary technician when supply is low.
