Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Colorado seeks Apprentice Teachers (AT). Apprentice Teachers are instructional extensions of the primary classroom teacher. They are expected to demonstrate high moral character and work toward the mastery of the subjects they teach under the supervision of the primary classroom teacher and/or Dean of Faculty and Headmaster. ATs work collaboratively to create a working and learning environment for all students that is safe, secure, and respectful. This position would report to the Dean of Faculty and begin in August 2025.
The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Collaborate directly with the teacher(s) to implement a content-rich classical education by following curriculum guidelines and expectations.
* Substitute teach when the teacher is absent.
* Assist with classroom housekeeping items such as collecting, organizing, and grading students' work and materials, copying worksheets, distributing materials and items, and keeping a tidy classroom.
* Build positive relationships with students by checking up on missing work, managing behaviors, executing small group and individual instruction, proctoring tests and evaluations, and meeting all accommodations.
* Assist with daily operations of the school, such as supervision of beginning and end of day routines and procedures, lunch and recess times, and other transitional periods.
* Be respectfully assertive in guiding and mentoring students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods.
* Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions.
* Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others.
* Maintain confidentiality in student records.
* Maintain a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners.
* Effectively communicate with supervisor and teammates.
* Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations.
* Other duties as assigned.
Qualified candidates will meet the following requirements:
* Previous exposure to classical education is preferred but not required.
* Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to communicate with students, staff, and guardians in a professional manner.
* Exemplary work habits verified by previous employers.
Physical Requirements:
* Must be able to lift 15 pounds.
* Must be able to supervise students for outdoor recess periods for at least 25 minutes outdoors.
* Must be able to traverse the classroom, school, and stairs.
* Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child.
