About the Role: As an SEMH Art Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering a dynamic and engaging art curriculum tailored to meet the diverse learning styles of students with SEMH challenges. You will create a safe and nurturing environment where students can express themselves creatively, build confidence and develop essential skills for their future. Key Responsibilities: Plan and deliver creative and structured art lessons tailored to the needs of students with SEMH challenges. Foster a supportive, inclusive and engaging classroom environment where students feel safe to express themselves. Implement strategies to manage behaviour effectively, promoting self-regulation and emotional resilience. Adapt teaching approaches to accommodate different learning styles and abilities, ensuring all students can access the curriculum. Work collaboratively with SENCOs, therapists and pastoral staff to support the holistic development of each student. Assess and monitor students' progress, providing regular feedback and implementing intervention strategies where necessary. Encourage and develop students' creativity, confidence and personal growth through a range of artistic mediums. Maintain a safe, organised and resourceful learning environment. Support students in developing essential social and emotional skills that will benefit them beyond the classroom. SEMH Art Teacher requirements: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification with a specialism in Art. Proven experience working with students with SEMH needs in an educational or alternative provision setting. Strong understanding of trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches to teaching. Ability to implement de-escalation techniques and manage challenging behaviours effectively. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and external professionals. Must be a driver with access to a vehicle due to the location and travel requirements. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
