Are you an experienced lawyer with a passion for property law and a desire to make a positive impact in local government?
West Berkshire Council is seeking a Lawyer - Property to join our Legal and Democratic Service, reporting to the Principal Lawyer - Planning, Regeneration & Property.
This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse range of property law matters and contribute to the delivery of high-quality legal services within a supportive and collaborative environment.
The Role
As the Lawyer - Property, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice and support on property law issues, including:
* Advising on land acquisitions, disposals, and leases
* Handling property transactions and associated legal documentation
* Providing advice on rights of way, easements, and covenants
* Supporting the Council's regeneration and development initiatives
* Attending meetings and hearings, and representing the Council in legal proceedings
You will work closely with elected members, senior officers, and external stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of legal services. In addition, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development and improvement of the service, including participating in policy reviews and providing input on legal implications of decisions.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
* Qualified solicitor or barrister with relevant legal qualifications
* Experience in handling a wide range of property law matters, ideally within a local authority or public sector environment
* Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and legal principles
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders
* Proactive and solution-focused approach to legal issues
* Ability to work independently, manage a varied caseload, and meet deadlines
* Team player with a collaborative mindset
This role is fixed term until August 2026 – Time limited project.
