To prepare surfaces and apply paint or other finishes to building interiors, exteriors, equipment, and furnishings. Responsible for the safe performance of professional skills associated with preparation of surfaces and application of paint or other finishes to buildings interiors and exteriors, equipment, and furnishings.
Description of Duties
1. Prepares material, room, or equipment surfaces for painting; mix, match, and apply paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, and other finishes.
2. Performs area clean up and rearrangement after the job has been completed.
3. Maintains and cleans brushes, ladders, paints, drop cloths, and other equipment used in trade.
4. Cuts and inserts glass.
5. Performs preventative maintenance, emergency repair, or scheduled work at night or on weekends.
6. Assists other trades and teams when necessary.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Direct supervision from the assigned supervisor.

Required Education
Completion of 6th grade, or ability to read and write English and perform basic mathematics.
Licenses/Certifications
As a condition of employment, this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).
Required Experience
Six (6) months experience as a painter.
Equipment
Tools, techniques, and tools common to trade.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Must be able to perform strenuous physical duties, including but not limited to those listed above. Exposure to inside and outside environments; hot, dry, wet, cold; some work in restricted spaces, exposure to dampness, dust, some duties and working conditions may create bodily strain and discomfort. Duties may involve the carrying, lifting, and moving of heavy objects, bending, stooping, crawling, climbing, reaching, and other activities requiring physical exertion; climbing, balancing, and working on ladders, scaffolds up to 100 ft. in air. Exposure to paints, shellacs, thinners, and other chemicals common to the trade. Danger of falls, chemicals, electrical shock, and burns, and hazards and conditions inherent to the trade or assignment.
