First Care Ambulance is the leading provider of health transport solutions in Devon. Delivering a wide range of services such as transferring non-urgent and higher dependency patients on behalf of NHS Hospital Trusts, we ensure that healthcare keeps moving. Due to continued growth we are currently recruiting for a full time Hospital Liaison Assistant to be based in Barnstaple. The role will require you to act as a link between crews and patients on the wards, to facilitate patients being ready to be collected by ambulance crews and the collection of patients from ambulance vehicles to then take them to their appointments. The successful applicant will have to communicate with First Care day control and the hospital of any mobility or timing issues identified with a patient, as well as assisting in an effective discharge process by improving service delivery to the Trusts and reducing waiting time for the patients, through improved communication and working relationships throughout the hospitals. Key elements of the role: - Facilitate collection of patients from wards to meet ambulances - Provide both Trust facilities management and First Care Control advance noticed of definite and potential discharge activity for the day; providing a focal point and vital link between the hospital and the ambulance service - Enforce Eligibility of patient to transport. Thereby reducing unnecessary bookings and costs to both parties and freeing up resources to where most needed - Ability to check mobility categories and pre-assess patients prior to discharge again to reduce delays, unnecessary bookings and reducing costs - Reduce incorrect bookings/cancelled discharges The ideal candidate will have: - Experience of working within a patient focused or service driven environment - Ability to communicate clearly and calmly with hospital staff and patients, sometimes in difficult and demanding circumstances - PC literate - Excellent customer service skills - Problem solving ability - Full Driving Licence as you will be required to drive company vehicles as part of this role - High accuracy levels and compliance with GDPR in relation to personal identifiable information - Flexibility - Understanding of patients' abilities (conditions/ limitations) - Good people skills with a polite and friendly manner - A good knowledge of the local area - An enhanced disclosure check is required (DBS) cost will be covered by the business - Able to provide a minimum of 2 references covering a 5 year period before commencing work In return for your time & hard work Training & development Ability to receive an industry card which enables access to numerous discounts Pension scheme 42.5 hours per week including every 4th Sunday
