Band 7 - AHP COMMUNITY CLINICAL SKILLS EDUCATOR
The Community Clinical Educator (AHP) plays a vital role in developing and supporting Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) across various disciplines, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, podiatry, speech and language therapy, dietetics, and more, through the Bromley Healthcare Academy. This role focuses on delivering high-quality clinical skills training, facilitating practice-based learning, and providing pastoral support to students and staff.
The postholder will lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of Moving and Handling training, ensuring it is evidence-based, innovative, and compliant with best practices and legislation. They will collaborate with service leads to embed safe manual handling techniques and promote a culture of safety.
The educator will work closely with clinical leads, academic partners, and service managers to develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programmes tailored to AHPs at various career stages. They will support preceptorship, student placements, and professional development, ensuring learners receive clinical and professional guidance.
Additionally, the postholder will act as a role model, demonstrating best practice in clinical skills. By embedding innovative teaching methods like simulation and digital learning, they will help develop a skilled and sustainable AHP workforce at Bromley Healthcare.
Main duties of the job
Educational Programme Development:
Lead the design and delivery of learning programmes for AHPs, aligning with organisational goals and service needs. Use diverse teaching methods, such as classroom training, online learning, VR/AI, and simulation, to create engaging experiences. Regularly assess and improve programmes based on feedback.
Manual Handling Training:
Lead and deliver Manual Handling training, ensuring compliance with best practices, legal requirements, and organisational policies. Develop training schedules for staff, including Corporate and Key Trainers, ensuring high-quality delivery. Regularly review and update materials to align with regulations and clinical practice changes.
Workforce Development:
Support AHP staff in clinical learning environments to enhance skills and professional growth. Develop and maintain high-quality student placements, collaborating with education providers and clinical leads. Monitor and evaluate placements, using feedback to ensure continuous improvement.
Strategic Leadership and Partnership Working:
Foster strong partnerships with practice-based staff, clinical leads, and external stakeholders to promote learning and development. Collaborate with senior leaders and external bodies to support workforce development and improve service delivery. Help integrate learning into clinical practice by embedding knowledge and skills across teams.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Educated to degree level with a relevant professional qualification in an AHP Profession (e.g., Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, HCPC-registered).
* HCPC Registration (or other relevant professional registration).
* Practice Educator qualification (post-graduate level) OR equivalent teaching qualification OR demonstrable evidence of formal teaching/training experience.
* Moving and Handling Qualification
Experience
* Minimum of three years post-registration experience in a therapy profession, with broad exposure to health and social care settings across acute, primary, and community care.
* Experience in education and training, including teaching, assessing students in practice, and educating clinicians outside of own professional group.
* Experienced in moving and handling, with experience in supervising or training others in safe practices.
* Experience in designing and delivering learning programmes, including blended learning, online formats, and communication plans to support learning delivery.
Skills
* Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to challenge constructively and handle sensitive information in challenging situations.
* Proficient in IT and digital tools, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email systems) and the ability to produce analytical data and reports for different audiences.
* Decision-making, influencing, and negotiation skills, with the ability to provide specialist advice to managers and staff on risk management and interpret Health & Safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
