This role is essential to ensuring the safety, amenity, and environmental integrity of our vibrant and diverse region. As the Senior Ranger, you will oversee the enforcement of key legislation, including the Dog Act 1976, Cat Act 2011, Bush Fires Act 1954, and Local Government Act 1995. Your responsibilities will involve promoting community education and awareness, managing animal control operations, ensuring compliance with firebreak and cyclone safety regulations, and addressing issues such as illegal dumping and camping. You will also play a vital role in preparing legal documentation, initiating prosecutions, and representing the Shire in court proceedings when required. This position requires strong leadership capabilities as you will guide and support the Ranger Services team, ensuring efficient operations and excellent service delivery. You will also manage the Shire's Animal Management Facility, which includes overseeing the care of impounded animals, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. A key aspect of the role is fostering positive relationships with residents, stakeholders, and government agencies to promote compliance and enhance community well-being Based in Derby, this role will also require occasional travel to Fitzroy Crossing, approximately 260 kilometres away, which may involve overnight stays. You will work on a rotating roster that spans seven days and includes after-hours availability to respond to emergencies and other urgent situations. We are looking for an individual with extensive experience in a similar role who can bring strong knowledge of relevant legislation and the ability to apply it effectively. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is a commitment to customer service and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. Skills And Experiences 1. Sound interpersonal, public relations and customer service skills, with the ability to liaise at all levels and work in a team environment. 2. Demonstrated team leadership, problem solving, decision making and conflict resolution skills. 3. Comprehensive knowledge and experience of core procedures and practices for Ranger Services activities. Knowledge of court procedures in relation to Ranger Services activities. 4. Knowledge of relevant statutes together with the application, investigation and prosecution in State and Local law enforcement. 5. Training and experience in animal handling, firearms use, emergency and fire support. Regulatory Officer Compliance Skills (ROCS) 1 & 2. 6. Working knowledge and understanding of the operations and obligations of Local Government practices and procedures. 7. Currently hold a Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) or be willing to obtain within 12months of service Please note that this is a Level 6 position based in Derby with a base salary of $82,352 plus generous allowances (up to $15,104), superannuation (11.5% & up-to 7% Council matching), and 5 weeks annual leave.
