Long Term Futures are working in partnership with a highly supportive all-through Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) to appoint an experienced and empathetic Pastoral Mentor. This setting caters to students from KS1 through KS4, many of whom require tailored emotional and behavioural support due to SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs, exclusions, or difficult life circumstances.
The role is ideal for someone with a background in youth work, SEMH support or behaviour mentoring, and offers excellent development for someone aspiring to move into pastoral leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support a consistent caseload of students across a range of age groups, with a focus on building trust, emotional regulation, and confidence
2. Deliver 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions that support social skills, resilience, and conflict resolution
3. Work alongside the pastoral and safeguarding teams, offering structured support throughout the school day
4. Monitor and improve attendance, engagement, and well-being for a designated group of pupils
5. Implement behaviour support plans and restorative practices
6. Liaise regularly with families, therapists, SENCo, and external professionals
7. Assist in daily routines, transitions, and reintegration programmes for returning students
Ideal Candidate:
1. Experience working with students with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or within a PRU/alternative provision
2. Calm, patient, and consistent approach to managing emotional and behavioural needs
3. Confident in handling crisis situations, de-escalation, and implementing support plans
4. Excellent communication and teamwork skills
5. Background in psychology, education, social work, youth work or counselling is desirable
6. Able to work across primary and secondary age groups within the PRU structure
