Within the company we are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our dynamic growing team. The Operations Manager will provide management and strategic oversight across the Transport, Site, and Maintenance departments, ensuring they operate efficiently, cost-effectively, and in alignment with the company’s strategic goals.
This role focuses on process optimisation, compliance, resource allocation, and cross-departmental coordination to drive operational excellence in skip hire and waste management services.
Responsibilities
Strategic Operations & Growth
* Develop long-term strategies to improve efficiency, profitability, and sustainability.
* Collaborate with department heads to streamline operations and enhance business growth.
* Monitor costs, optimize budgets, and plan capital investments.
* Ensure staffing and resources are aligned for maximum efficiency.
Compliance & Risk Management
* Ensure adherence to regulations (DVSA, Environment Agency, HSE).
* Implement risk management protocols and conduct internal audits.
Performance & Process Improvement
* Set KPIs to drive efficiency and accountability.
* Implement technology and lean practices to enhance productivity.
Leadership & Team Development
* Mentor department heads and foster a high-performance culture.
* Support training and development initiatives.
Business Growth & Customer Focus
* Align operations with business growth and customer satisfaction.
* Work with commercial teams to scale operations efficiently.
General Responsibilities
* Identify cost-saving opportunities and support company-wide initiatives as needed.
Key Objectives
* Reduce costs through process improvements and resource allocation.
* Increase fleet and site utilisation efficiency.
* Implement KPI-driven operational reporting.
Strengthen Compliance & Risk Management
* Ensure full regulatory compliance in health & safety, waste management, and transport.
Operational Planning & Site Management
* Achieve zero landfill by 2026 in line with EfW commitments.
* Maintain an HGV & plant fleet age below 5 years with a structured replacement plan.
* Develop a 5-year site expansion and infrastructure strategy.
* Standardise processes across sites for consistent efficiency and service.
Qualifications
CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 4 Operator Competence for Non-Hazardous Waste Treatment and Transfer (Required)
Experience
Previous experience of managing people and being responsible across multiple sites, preferably within the waste industry.
