Main duties of the job
Are you an experienced ophthalmologist with a specialisation or interest in glaucoma, looking for a new opportunity? Apply to join our dynamic & forward thinking eye department and trust as a Locum Consultant.
As a Glaucoma Consultant, you'll have the opportunity to manage complex glaucoma cases and contribute to the high standard of care provided by our department. The glaucoma team is an enthusiastic, innovative team (3 substantive glaucoma consultants, 5 SAS doctors, fellows & nurses) delivering complex traditional surgery and MIGS.

We have the latest imaging equipment, including OCTs, Optos, and digital slit lamps, ensuring we deliver the highest standard of care.
Our four fully equipped ophthalmic theatres boast cutting-edge technology, including Alcon Phacoemulsification machines and Ngenuity 3D viewing systems. With Leica Proveo 8 microscopes and intraoperative OCT capabilities, we prioritize precision and innovation in surgical procedures.
Diverse Patient Base: With over 120,000 outpatient visits, 6000 inpatients, 24,000 eye casualty cases annually, you'll have the chance to work with a wide range of patients.
Training and Development: Engage in regular regional and local glaucoma meetings and contribute to the training of AHPs and medical staff.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
As an Ophthalmology Consultant at University Hospital Southampton's Eye Unit, here's what you'll do:
* Utilise your expertise in managing complex glaucoma cases with the support of a consultant, providing comprehensive care to patients.
* Demonstrate proficiency in managing glaucoma cases, collaborating closely with consultants to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
* Foster a collaborative spirit within the team, effectively communicating with colleagues and contributing to our multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
* Participate in the education and training of medical staff and trainees, providing mentorship and sharing insights to enhance professional development.
* Stay updated with the latest advancements in glaucoma management, actively seeking opportunities for learning and professional growth to improve patient care.
Individuals wishing to apply must be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC).
The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.
Person Specification
Qualifications, Training & Experience
* FRCOphth or equivalent
* GMC registration with a licence to practise
* Experience in performing glaucoma surgery
* Experience of teaching and audit
* Publications in ophthalmology
* MD or PhD
* Clinical trials experience
* Publication in high impact journals
* Experience of running virtual glaucoma clinics
* CCT or within 3 months of completion of CCT
Aptitudes and skills
* Ability to complete Audit
* Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
