Job overview
This role involves working as part of a wider team to provide dental triage, advice and assistance to callers with a range of urgent and emergency dental issues. The team comprises of clinical and non-clinical staff including doctors, pharmacists, nurses, paramedics, and trained call handlers. As a dental nurse at HUC you will be responsible for managing patients calling with dental complaints, which could range from a lost filling to dental trauma. You will call patients, ask relevant questions based on your clinical judgement and following the dental triage protocol. You will provide the patient with self-care advice, information on how to seek dental urgent care or book an appointment, if necessary, and help them to access care most relevant for their assessed dental needs.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for enthusiastic dental nurses who are eager to learn and work in a new and challenging environment. You must be able to work independently, manage responsibility, and know when to seek advice. Experience of managing and advising patients over the phone is beneficial but not mandatory. Applicants will have an advantage if they have worked in various dental settings; however, the main requirement is comfort working independently and providing accurate information to patients with dental urgent and emergency problems. You will receive training on the software systems used and templates to assist in patient assessments. Successful applicants will undergo a thorough induction process, including 'buddy' shifts with experienced dental triage nurses. You will be expected to cover patients across the geography that Herts Urgent Care supplies the NHS 111/Integrated Urgent Care services and work from home, HQ call centre, or alternate HUC base for your shifts.
Working for our organisation
HUC provides the NHS 111 and Out of Hours GP service to over 4.5 million patients across Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, West Essex, and the South West of England. HUC is an exciting and supportive place to work; no two shifts are the same, and we have a wealth of knowledge across the organisation, ensuring we get the most appropriate outcome for every caller.
Please note we are unable to provide visa sponsorships. You must have an unrestricted right to work in place.
We are an equal-opportunity employer committed to a diverse and inclusive organisation. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of their age, caring responsibilities, disability, gender/sex, gender reassignment/trans status, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status.
