Our client is a fast-growing challenger bank that is reshaping the financial landscape with a focus on Asset Finance. Having secured a full banking license in early 2021, they have rapidly expanded their loan book to £300m and are on track to reach £500m this year, with ambitious growth targets beyond that. Their team is dedicated to delivering innovative financial solutions while maintaining a strong risk and compliance framework.
The Role
Our client is seeking an Asset Finance Underwriter to assess credit risk, underwrite secured and unsecured lending, ensure appropriate security is in place, and support compliance and recoveries. This role is pivotal in maintaining the bank’s robust lending standards and risk management framework while driving business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
* Underwrite and assess asset finance transactions, ensuring compliance with credit risk policies and regulatory requirements.
* Apply personal sanctioning authority, ensuring risk assessments and recommendations are clear, well-documented, and aligned with business objectives.
* Monitor portfolio performance, conduct periodic reviews, and manage credit ratings and facility renewals.
* Ensure all transactions meet sanctioning requirements, with proper documentation and security execution.
* Support default monitoring and recoveries where necessary.
* Collaborate with internal teams, distributors, and brokers to enhance the customer experience.
* Contribute to the development and refinement of the bank’s credit risk strategy and policies.
What Our Client is Looking For:
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in credit risk or lending within a bank or asset lender.
* Strong financial analysis skills, with experience evaluating SME/corporate credit applications.
* Proven ability to assess risk, interpret financial data, and make sound credit decisions.
* Experience operating within a tiered mandate structure, with personal lending authority.
* Strong working knowledge of credit risk frameworks, regulatory requirements, and compliance best practices.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and credit risk systems.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable:
* Ability to influence and present credit cases effectively.
* A proactive, self-motivated approach with strong problem-solving skills.
* Experience working in a high-growth or challenger banking environment.
