Building Envelope Engineer
Herold Engineering Limited, a prominent engineering consulting firm specializing in building enclosure design, is seeking a Building Enclosure Engineer for our Victoria office. Located on Vancouver Island, our firm offers civil, structural, building enclosure, marine, and industrial engineering services with over 75 staff across Nanaimo, Victoria, and Ucluelet.
Position Overview
We are looking for a dedicated professional to join our Building Enclosure Group. This role offers an excellent opportunity for early to mid-career individuals to gain valuable experience and grow within a supportive team environment. The primary focus will be on building envelope design, energy modeling, and analysis, with responsibilities including project delivery management, contract administration, and construction oversight.
Job Responsibilities
1. Supervise building envelope restoration projects from investigation through completion.
2. Prepare engineering drawings and contract documents in collaboration with technologists and team members.
3. Review architectural, electrical, mechanical, and structural drawings.
4. Conduct field reviews and engineering investigations.
5. Oversee energy modeling and audits for new and existing buildings.
6. Draft project correspondence and participate in client meetings.
7. Mentor junior staff to ensure high-quality work standards.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Civil/Building Science or equivalent.
* Active P.Eng. designation from EGBC with at least 5 years of experience in Building Envelope Consulting.
* Experience in tender package preparation, contract administration, and condition assessments.
* Knowledge of BC Building Codes (Parts 4, 5, and 9).
* Interest or experience in Passive House design strategies and energy modeling is an asset.
* Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Willingness to work at heights, including climbing ladders and working on swing stages.
