Main scope of job:
As the Registered Manager you will be registered with Ofsted. It will be imperative that the home you are responsible for meets the children's home regulations and the Ofsted Quality standards and that as the manager you ensure a high level of compliance against these standards. You will lead the whole staff team in ensuring a service that delivers exceptional care and support and that creates and delivers positive outcomes for the young people. You will be required to carry out a range of duties within your role. The key responsibilities are detailed below but there will be other duties consistent with the role that you may be requested to undertake by your line manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To ensure that colleagues are fully informed of recent developments at handovers and meetings.
2. To comply with relevant legislation and council policies and procedures.
3. To maintain standards of care and report to the Responsible Individual any breaches in professional practice.
4. To comply with health and safety policies and to report any incidents, accidents, risks or hazards to the Responsible Individual immediately.
5. To follow the children's Home Regulations and standards.
6. Responsibility for organising staff rotas.
7. Ensuring that staff understand and are fully aware of the daily routines of the home.
8. To ensure that all staff act in a professional manner.
9. To ensure all policies and procedures, as well as risk assessments, are always adhered to.
10. To ensure that all staff have written up any incident / accident forms or restraint forms as applicable and that such information is received within the agreed timescale.
11. To ensure that all staff read the Daily Logbook to check all messages at the beginning of work or at any point during the working day as required.
12. To report immediately to the Responsible Individual any issues regarding Child Protection matters.
13. Work within organisational policy and procedure established in the home.
14. To contribute to the on-call system as and when required in line with management rota.
15. To ensure that all staff under their supervision undertake and complete training in accordance with their induction training schedule and Personal Development Plan.
16. Ensure that all staff are aware of their roles and responsibilities in relation to the Children's Home Regulations (England) 2015.
17. To be flexible in hours of work in order to meet tasks required.
18. Conduct supervisions with senior and junior support workers.
19. Ensure that children's reviews and meetings are delivered within the required time scales.
20. Ensure both local authority and internal care and placement plans are in place and that staff fully understand their role.
21. Chair, or participate in meetings and reviews, as and when required.
22. Undertake and participate in any training programmes which are relevant to the employment of staff working in children services, paying particular regard to residential care.
23. Promote and actively encourage the professional development of staff.
24. Ensure that all administrative requirements of the home are maintained in such a way that they are compliant with good childcare practice, homes procedures, Company policies and Children's Regulations.
25. To undertake any other duties that may be reasonably requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
1. To have an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Registered Manager.
2. To have a good working knowledge of the children home quality standards, ensuring that you and the staff working on shift uphold these in the work they complete.
3. A willingness and ability to demonstrate respect and regard towards people with additional needs.
4. To be able to communicate well with service users, other professionals, parents and relatives.
5. To be able to record accurately and write clear reports.
6. To have experience in supporting and managing staff to improve performance.
7. To have an understanding of the needs of people who have a learning disability and or Emotional and behavioural difficulties and be able to respond to those needs appropriately.
8. To have experience and knowledge of how to manage challenging behaviours.

10. To have general good health as moving and handling people may be part of the tasks undertaken.
11. Ability to respond appropriately to resident's personal care needs showing respect and sensitivity.
12. Ability to work professionally showing tact and confidentiality.

14. Ability to work in various settings and locations.
15. Ability to work positively within a team and the ability to work without direct supervision.
16. Willingness to undertake training.
17. To take key worker responsibility, liaising with other professionals, writing review reports and attending review meetings for identified residents.
Education and Experience:
1. At least two years' experience of working (paid) with children and young people in a residential children's home in a supervisory capacity.
2. Extensive experience of the management of staff members and shift leading within the Health and Social Care Sector.
3. Diploma level 3/4 in Residential care (children/young people) or equivalent qualification.
4. Willingness to work towards the level 5 diploma (children's workforce).
