Position Summary: Reporting to the Reliability Shift Manager, as part of a small technical team, you will assist the Fleet Operator in undertaking/supervising primarily in the corrective mechanical and electrical maintenance, detailed fault finding, and repair on the Class 701 South West Rail fleet of trains. Successful applicants will ensure that any maintenance undertaken at the depot is completed in accordance with the company's processes, procedures, and complies with all safety regulations.
This is a Safety Critical environment, and all tasks undertaken will need to ensure that the operator can achieve and maintain the reliability and availability targets set for the trains. The candidate will assist the Operator when failures occur during service and resolve any issues on the network.
Responsibilities include:
1. High Level fault finding electrically
2. High Level fault finding mechanically
3. Providing train systems engineering advice for the vehicle and key vehicle systems (such as TCMS, HVAC, propulsion, brakes, doors, on-train communications, etc.)
4. FRACAS - Failure reporting, analysis, and corrective action system
5. Producing solutions for short term mitigation and long term resolution
6. Monitoring warranty issues and liaising with supplier technical teams
7. Attending to faulty trains in service, component replacements, and modification work
8. Helping customers with root cause analysis using Alstom FRACAS, 8D, PPS methodologies
9. Ensuring correct replacement parts are sourced
10. Assisting operator in updating maintenance instructions, overhaul instruction, processes & procedures
11. Monitoring trains reliability & availability performance and issuing monthly performance reports
12. Monitoring trains in Service using remote monitoring systems
13. Downloading train data from onboard train data recorders
14. Running diagnostics software to identify faults with various train systems
15. System software updates as required
16. Obsolescence avoidance and mitigation
17. Engineering support for all safety-related incidents
18. Service Provider representation on Failure Review Boards
19. Sharing experience gained of other fleets for recommendations and opportunities for design improvements
20. Contribution to Health and Safety on a daily basis
21. Strong report writing skills
Qualifications:
1. Minimum qualification required - NVQ Level 3 in an electrical discipline
Experience required:
1. Experience within Rail desirable
2. Use of Laptops and diagnostic tools to determine faults
3. Ability to work from maintenance manuals and schematics
4. Experience of Mechanical or Electrical fault finding
5. Experience of Mechanical or Electrical repairs
6. Troubleshooting and evidence gathering
Person profile:
