Job Description – Early Years Practitioner
Reports to: Nursery Manager
Desirable traits: Fun loving, good sense of humour, strong team player, enjoys being outdoors and spending time in the natural world, child-centred ethos and a passion for early years.
Responsibilities:
1. Take part in delivering the highest standards of care throughout the nursery
2. Be a “key-person” having responsibility for overall child's welfare and parent partnerships
3. Liaise with outside agencies such as Early Years Advisors and Health Visitors for the benefit of the children and nursery
4. Observe each child's progress and report on achievements and assist in maintaining records of each child’s day-to-day activities and development for parents using learning journeys
5. Develop positive relationships with parents/carers
6. Lead the supervision of children at play (indoors and outdoors) and at mealtimes
7. Lead the delivery of the EYFS framework
8. Lead the planning and development of inspiring, enabling environments where children initiate play
9. Complete daily checklists as required, such as room opening and closing, outdoor, bathroom and kitchen checklists
10. Take a lead role in helping to provide an environment where children value and respect different cultures, religion, language and disability and ensure that toys and games reflect this within the setting
11. Ensure welfare and safeguarding children procedures are followed and know what to do in the event of an allegation being made
12. Demonstrate a commitment to understanding how children develop
13. Be involved in fundraising events, assist with the promotion of the nursery, attend training events, open evenings and staff meetings and parents’ evenings
14. Undertake domestic jobs within the setting, such as preparation of snacks, cleaning of equipment and nursery rooms
15. Ensure that you understand and follow the company’s policies and procedures
16. Be in tune with and meet children's individual needs at all times
17. Ensure every child feels safe and secure and that regular headcounts are completed when moving children around the nursery
18. Undertake a shared responsibility for Health, Safety and cleanliness throughout the nursery
19. Ensure the general cleanliness of the children at all times, this includes noses, faces, toileting and clothing care
20. Lead the operation of the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the bedding, nappy changing and food service areas
21. Be familiar with all emergency and security procedures, e.g. fire procedures, routines for dropping off and collecting children and marking the register
22. Ensure the correct following of the medicine policy at all times
23. Be responsible for recording accidents in the accident book
24. Carry out reasonable tasks as requested by your manager
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £12.00-£13.50 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
