Position: Supervisor - IC Engine Testing
Location: Bedfordshire
Reporting to: Operational Lead - IC Engines
Shift Pattern: Days (Monday to Friday)
About the Role:
Are you passionate about innovation and technology? Do you thrive in a dynamic environment? I am seeking an experienced and driven Supervisor to join a class-leading Engine Test Centre in Millbrook. This role is pivotal in ensuring seamless operations and collaboration between the Engineering team and operational workforce.
The Engine Test Centre specialises in a wide array of testing programmes, from durability and fuel testing to cutting-edge research on prototype hardware. From downsized passenger car engines focusing on economy and emissions to high-performance units, we deliver excellence across all projects. As Supervisor, you will play a vital role in distributing technician resources, overseeing operations, and fostering a culture of safety and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the day-to-day operations of the Engine Test Centre.
Supervise the preparation and installation of test samples in engine test cells.
Mentor and motivate team members to achieve departmental goals.
Promote a positive, can-do attitude and a collaborative work environment.
Coordinate and allocate resources, including manpower, materials, and equipment.
Approve timesheets and holiday requests.
Liaise with supporting departments, engineers, and customers on technical matters.
Drive initiatives to reduce waste and optimise efficiency.
Lead and coordinate operational projects to address complex testing requirements.
Uphold and demonstrate core professional behaviours and values.
Qualifications & Experience:
Proven experience in a supervisory role.
Background in automotive and/or testing.
Formal automotive qualification or apprenticeship (desirable).
Proficiency in Health and Safety management, including risk assessments, LOLER, PUWER, and working at height.
Skills & Behaviours:
Strong knowledge of petrol and diesel engine fundamentals.
Understanding of engine support systems.
Ability to work autonomously and make informed decisions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Highly motivated with excellent teamwork ethics.
Punctual, organised, and adaptable.
Customer-focused with an awareness of confidentiality.
Professional, assertive, and approachable with strong communication skills.
Detail-oriented and quality-focused.
Other Requirements:
Physically capable of working in a laboratory/workshop environment.
Minimal travel flexibility.
Full UK driving licence and own transport (site accessibility via public transport is limited).
Willingness to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check.
