We are looking for an enthusiastic individual, who will contribute to the effective management, regulation and development of navigation activities on and around the Anglian Waterways, covering Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Lincolnshire and parts of West Norfolk.
As a Navigation Enforcement Technical Officer, you will provide a frontline presence undertaking enforcement activities to ensure those using our waterways adhere to our legislation and regulations. You will lead on 'field' based targeted enforcement projects and patrols, support boat registration compliance checks, investigate byelaw offences and prepare case files for use in court, where you may need to give evidence.
You will assist with the continuous development, management, and regulation of the Anglian Waterways. You must be able to build good working relationships with colleagues and professional partners, including emergency services, and other key stakeholders.
You will work both in the field and in the office and will require good IT skills to learn and use, on a daily basis, various databases and digital applications.
Our work can involve challenging conversations with sometimes confrontational individuals, requiring you to adapt your communication style.
The team
The Waterways Partnerships & Development team manage partnership working, vessel registration, enforcement activities, income and funding strategies and waterways estates.
The wider team cover 568km's of navigable waterways, with over 6,000 boats, across Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, West Norfolk, Essex and Suffolk, known as the Anglian Waterways.
The Environment Agency is working towards achieving a 'sustainable navigation business', ensuring 'more people and wildlife benefit from improved waterways' as described in our corporate plan.

Essential:
- Exceptional organisational skills, display good verbal and written communication skills, showing good attention to detail when recording information to support enforcement activities.
- You must be able to prioritise a varied workload, integrating into a small team and working closely with colleagues from other teams and external organisations.
- You must demonstrate strong health, safety and wellbeing principles for yourself and others.
- You must have relevant experience in a similar field working with enforcement, compliance, and dealing with illegal and unauthorised activities.
- Experience of working closely in a team.
- You must have a good understanding of working in a customer-focused environment.
- You must hold a valid driving licence.
Desirable:
- An awareness of a broad range of water-based activities.
- Boat handling/skipper qualifications.
