An opportunity has arisen to join our team within the Gastroenterology department, primarily based at Colchester Hospital.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide a specialist clinical gastroenterology service, including inpatient, endoscopy, and outpatient gastroenterology work. A broad knowledge of gastroenterology and general medicine is essential, as is expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will:
1. Work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service with the highest standard of care
2. Work with the multi-professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines
3. Develop and maintain good working practices within wards, outpatients, and A&E
4. Collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues in tertiary centres, community services, and primary care
5. Offer support and leadership to junior medical colleagues, nursing colleagues, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team

Job responsibilities
The key duties and responsibilities include:
1. Participating in the consultant-led GI bleed on-call rota
2. Teaching and training
3. Care of inpatients and outpatients
4. Clinical and administrative duties as required
5. Participation in Clinical Governance
All consultants are responsible for patient care and providing effective services to meet the needs of the local population within available resources.
Person Specification
* On GMC Specialist Register in GIM and Gastroenterology (or within 6 months of CCT at interview)
* Full accreditation in General Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology
* MB, BS or equivalent; MRCP
* Ability to provide expert clinical opinions in GIM and Gastroenterology
* CCT in GIM and Gastroenterology
* Extensive NHS experience in the UK
* High standard of GI endoscopy, including haemostasis and therapeutic procedures
* Teamwork skills
* Effective communication with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses, and agencies
* Willingness to undertake additional responsibilities regionally or nationally
* Full Driving Licence and access to a car
* MD or PhD
* Training in a relevant sub-specialty
* Management training and experience
* Reside within 10 miles of the hospital
