The Field Services Engineer will provide 1st and 2nd Line IT support to Akkodis clients across multiple industries. The role requires troubleshooting hardware, software, networking, and telecommunication issues, ensuring minimal downtime for business operations.
While based in Stevenage, the position involves remote and on-site support, with travel across the UK and Northern Ireland as needed. The engineer will play a key role in maintaining IT infrastructure and delivering excellent customer service to end-users.
The Field Services Engineer will be responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving IT and telecom-related issues across client sites. This includes supporting Windows environments, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and enterprise applications.
Responsibilities
1. Provide 1st and 2nd Line IT support, including hardware, software, network, and telecommunications troubleshooting.
2. Diagnose and resolve issues with laptops, desktops, mobile devices, printers, and peripheral equipment.
3. Support and maintain Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and enterprise applications.
4. Install, configure, and maintain telecommunications systems, including VoIP, mobile device management, and networked communication systems.
5. Utilise IT Service Management (ITSM) tools, such as ServiceNow, Remedy, or Jira Service Management, to log, track, and resolve incidents and requests.
6. Troubleshoot and support network technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, LAN/WAN).
7. Manage and escalate incidents where necessary, ensuring timely resolution.
8. Maintain accurate documentation of support activities and solutions.
9. Work closely with internal teams and third-party vendors to resolve complex IT and telecoms issues.
10. Travel to client sites across the UK and Northern Ireland to provide on-site support as required.
11. Deliver excellent customer service and build strong relationships with clients.
Required Experience
1. Previous experience in a 1st or 2nd Line IT support role.
2. Experience supporting enterprise IT environments and providing remote and on-site troubleshooting.
3. Demonstrated ability to resolve technical issues efficiently and professionally.
4. Experience working in a customer-facing IT support role with a strong service-oriented mindset.
Required Skills
1. Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365, and Active Directory.
2. Experience with networking technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, LAN/WAN).
3. Familiarity with telecommunications systems, including VoIP, mobile networks, and unified communications platforms.
4. Proficiency in using IT Service Management (ITSM) tools, such as ServiceNow, Remedy, or Jira Service Management.
5. Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware, software, network, and telecoms issues efficiently.
6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-first mindset.
7. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
8. A full UK driving license is preferred due to travel requirements.
Required Education
1. Relevant IT certifications (such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft certifications) are desirable but not mandatory.
2. Higher education in IT, Computer Science, or a related field is an advantage.
