The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is one of the largest departments in Whitehall, providing services and support to around 23 million people. It is responsible for delivering benefit payments worth over £220 billion a year and, to administer this system.
The Service Modernisation Programme Finance Team are part of the Financial Management and Partnering Directorate, and our main role is to support one of the most ambitious transformations programme’s undertaken by DWP, this is a multi-year Programme that is expected to span several Spending Review cycles, you will be at the heart of financial decision making for the Programme.
You will be working closely with Finance Business Partners (FBP), Operational Delivery, Change Delivery Professionals and Analytical colleagues to provide clear and robust financial information.
The successful candidates will be joining an established team and will be working closely with a G7 FBP to support one strand of the programme.
The role will be at the heart of several of the key work areas within Financial Management and Partnering Directorate, which include:
* Providing quality MI and analysis to departmental decision makers.
* Owning and running Finance Group’s global financial processes including forecasting, planning, budgeting, in year management, options analysis, project accounting and variance analysis.
* Leading DWP’s Financial Management, Performance Reporting and Business Planning, by implementing the finance strategy for the Department and managing the planning framework that underpins this.
* Challenging, supporting and providing advice (as a partner) to other areas in DWP.
What are my responsibilities?
Successful candidates can expect to be involved in a range of the following activities:
* Working with senior colleagues within the Department, and across government, to drive value for money through the provision of robust financial reports to inform effective and timely decision making.
* You will have the ability to identify and evaluate the critical issues, risks, and opportunities, requiring a detailed understanding of DWP’s strategic goals, combined with a sound grasp of the ‘big picture’.
* You may have line management responsibility and will be expected to effectively utilise team capabilities to maximise the efficiency of the team and Financial Management and Partnering.
* Managing delivery and analysis of key financial information, supporting, and responding to queries from stakeholders across DWP.
* Performing control checks on financial information and engaging and building relationships with business leads and suppliers.
Hybrid working
This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need, but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be considered. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
