About the Company
Our client, a growing, family-run business based in East Grinstead, is looking for an Accountant to join their team due to significant expansion. They specialise in providing expert advice to owner-managed businesses. As this is a key expansion role, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their career in a supportive, friendly environment. Driving is essential for this role due to the location.
Role Overview
The Accountant will work closely with the Director and other accounts staff, with a focus on using cloud-based accounting software to manage client accounts. You'll be responsible for building client relationships, offering top-tier accounting advice, and ensuring accurate financial management. Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and time management are critical in this position.
You will also take responsibility for preparing quarterly VAT returns and staying informed about the upcoming Making Tax Digital (MTD) changes. This role provides an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team in a growing business.
Key Responsibilities
1. Prepare annual accounts from both complete and incomplete records.
2. Oversee and complete quarterly VAT returns for a range of clients.
3. Manage and submit monthly CIS returns.
4. Handle client queries related to VAT, CIS, accounts, and resolve issues in collaboration with the internal team and HMRC.
5. Maintain financial records and management information systems.
6. Supervise and support colleagues with their bookkeeping tasks.
7. Attend relevant training seminars to stay current on industry updates.
8. Manage financial systems, including Iris, Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage.
9. Perform general office duties as required.
Required Experience
1. Minimum AAT qualification.
2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
3. Strong understanding of VAT law.
4. At least 3 years' experience in an accounting practice.
5. Experience overseeing and reviewing the work of other staff.
6. Expertise in Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, and Iris.
7. Experience in accounts preparation.
