The Role:
Our Automation teams deliver projects in various industries including Nuclear, Oil & Gas, Food & Beverage, Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals, Energy/Renewables, Data Centres, and Utilities. Our teams across Chesterfield, Fareham, and Warrington deliver solutions using a wide array of technology including Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, AVEVA, Ignition, and many more. As part of our continued growth in Automation, we are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Gas project delivery team in Warrington.
The Senior Systems Engineer will:
1. Be a committed and enthusiastic member of the team, taking full responsibility for successful technical delivery of a complete project solution to the agreed scope in accordance with company procedures whilst meeting budgetary and time-scale targets.
2. Be proactive, and able to allocate tasks among team members and supervise, assist, and monitor task progress, advising the Lead Engineer / Project Manager on progress, risks, and issues.
3. Work cooperatively with the Lead Engineer / Project Manager and engineering team to ensure smooth project progress in accordance with the agreed project lifecycle.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the technical delivery of projects.
2. Work closely with and support the Lead Engineer / Project Manager in all aspects of project technical delivery and scope management.
3. Allocate tasks to the engineering team and monitor progress.
4. Responsible for meeting the technical and quality requirements of projects.
5. Ensure project adherence to company quality processes and procedures.
6. Identify project opportunities and variations.
7. Support the Lead Engineer / Project Manager in identifying and managing risks and issues.
8. Identify and enable use of reusable modules by standardization and modularization of systems where appropriate.
9. Training planning and support.
10. Mentoring of Engineers.
11. Provide Health and Safety leadership by example.
Main Functions:
The Senior Engineer is normally expected to undertake the following:
1. Assist Lead Engineer / Project Manager in the development of project Gantt chart.
2. Assist Lead Engineer / Project Manager in the development and ongoing updates of task & procurement lists.
3. Ongoing development & updating of detailed task & procurement lists.
4. Peer review documents created by the project team or other teams.
5. Attend contract meetings with the Lead Engineer / Project Manager as required.
6. Undertake site surveys as required.
7. Undertake outline design, upfront design studies, and requirement definition for clients.
8. Develop FDS.
9. Develop DDS.
10. Develop test specification & design testing methodology.
11. Quantify and build quotations for client changes to design.
12. Provide input into the design review process for subcontractor designs, panel designs, etc.
13. Develop project modules (Modules as identified in the design - PLC code modules, SCADA scripts, Mimics, communication drivers, etc.).
14. Develop site work documentation with team input as necessary (Risk assessment, method statement, site test documentation).
15. Develop O & M documentation.
16. Undertake full integrated system testing, CFAT, SAT, installation, and commissioning.
Experience & Qualifications:
A minimum of 5 years' experience of developing integrated control system solutions. The following experience is essential:
1. Detailed experience of the full project life cycle from system specification through design, development, testing, and on-site commissioning.
2. Development and delivery of detailed design documentation.
3. Hands-on experience of PLC and SCADA systems.
4. A good appreciation of Control panels, electrical installation, and Instrumentation solutions.
5. A Degree or HND/HNC in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Control Systems, or relevant discipline.
Experience of the following is desirable:
1. Cyber Security.
2. Functional Safety.
3. Fire & Gas Systems e.g. Detronics.
4. DCS.
5. Network design and configuration.
6. Industrial Protocol Knowledge (Modbus, OPC, etc.).
7. Bespoke code development.
