What is Gender Identity Services? What do we do? We provide a supportive environment, bringing together a wide range of experience into a highly specialised MDT which aims to address the needs of patients presenting with difficulties arising from gender dysphoria/incongruence. The team includes consultant clinical psychologists, mental health, learning disability and physical health nurses, speech and language therapists, a consultant psychiatrist, senior psychiatrists, consultant endocrinologists, GPs, gender outreach workers, doctoral level trainee clinical/counselling psychologists, and a prescribing pharmacist.
The role will be fully supported by a Consultant Psychiatrist. We’re looking for passionate people who have an interest in Gender Identity Services. Experience of working with a gender diverse population would be advantageous, particularly those candidates with prior experience of working in a gender identity service or those who have completed specific training in gender identity practice e.g. PGCert or PGDip in Gender Identity Healthcare Practice. The successful applicant will be competent in assessing gender dysphoria, psychiatric co-morbidity, readiness for hormonal treatments and surgical intervention.
Main duties of the job:
1. To work with fellow medics, clinical colleagues and service managers to provide medical expertise, including assessment, diagnosis, opinions for suitability for surgery, and a prescribing service for Gender Identity service users.
2. To engage in clinical governance processes alongside clinical leadership and operational manager frameworks.
3. To make decisions within the multidisciplinary assessment approach.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:
1. Liaison with other professionals as required.
2. As a senior medical professional on the team, excellent communication skills employed.
3. Accurate and timely (same day) documentation of patient reviews.
4. Application of the MCA and MHA when necessary.
5. Use of knowledge of safeguarding in clinical decision making.
6. Provision of supervision to MDT and supervision of junior medical staff on the team.
7. Attend supervision monthly with Consultant.
8. To participate in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit and risk management.
9. To participate in continuing professional development.
10. To comply with all Trust policies and procedures.
11. To participate in and complete all activities required to achieve revalidation and recertification according to GMC and Royal College requirements.

Essential criteria: MBBS or Equivalent medical qualification, Fully licenced with the GMC.
Training:
Essential criteria: Knowledge of gender services, Evidence of relevant CPD.
