HEATHCOTE SCHOOL AND SCIENCE COLLEGE
Normanton Park, Chingford, London, E4 6ES
Lead Teacher of Deaf
Commencing January 2025
Heathcote School and Science College is an inclusive community school with key values to Encourage, Challenge and Succeed. The values are integral in everything we do to support and nurture pupils to achieve the best possible outcomes in a safe and happy learning environment.
We are looking for an experienced Teacher of the Deaf to teach our 16 deaf learners and ensure ambitious progress for these pupils. Day to day our deaf pupils are educated with their hearing peers and gain access to the mainstream curriculum wherever and whenever possible. Support staff, including communication support workers, from the Deaf Support Department work with subject teachers to aid them in including the deaf learners in their lessons. Teachers of the Deaf are responsible for assessing and monitoring the deaf pupil’s language, literacy, and communication skills using specialist assessments and using this information to inform the planning of specialist 1:1 or small group sessions to target the specific needs of the learners. The successful candidate will already hold ToD qualified status or be willing to undertake the mandatory qualification on commencement of the role.
The school puts well-being and development at the heart of its work, and we have talented staff who are encouraged to grow and develop collaboratively. We are part of the North East London School Teaching Hub and the West Essex Teaching School Alliance. The school has excellent resources and an impressive, spacious site on the edge of Epping Forest.
We aim to ensure our staff body reflects the diversity of our community and use anonymised recruitment processes in our short-listing. We value and respect everyone’s identity and our Equality Information and Objectives Policy confirms our commitment to the 2010 Equalities Act.
