Role Overview:
Teaching Personnel is seeking versatile and committed General Cover Teachers to join highly regarded secondary schools in Leeds, Huddersfield and Wakefield, West Yorkshire. These full-time positions are beginning in January, if not sooner, to cover leaves of absence and provide a unique opportunity to teach across various subjects and year groups, supporting students’ learning across the curriculum.
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom Supervision: Provide engaging, structured classroom supervision for a range of subjects, following pre-set lesson plans and ensuring students remain focused and on task. Cross-Subject Teaching: Adapt quickly to teach multiple subjects at Key Stages 3 and 4, creating a flexible learning environment that supports students in diverse areas of study. Lesson Delivery: Effectively deliver lessons in the absence of the usual subject teacher, following provided lesson plans, while fostering a productive and respectful classroom atmosphere. Student Engagement: Promote active participation and manage student behaviour according to school policies, ensuring a supportive and inclusive environment conducive to learning. Monitoring Progress: Conduct regular assessments in collaboration with the subject teacher to monitor student understanding and address any gaps in learning. Adaptability and Resourcefulness: Be prepared to adapt lesson delivery as needed, using creative methods to engage students in subjects outside your specialization. Collaboration with Staff: Liaise with subject teachers and department heads to ensure continuity of learning and alignment with curriculum objectives. Administrative Tasks: Complete essential classroom administration, including attendance recording, assignment marking, and managing classroom resources. Ideal Candidate:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Holds QTS or equivalent experience in secondary education, with flexibility and proficiency across subjects. Experience: Prior experience as a General Cover Teacher or in a similar adaptable teaching role, with strong classroom management skills. Interpersonal Skills: An approachable and supportive demeanor, with excellent communication skills to engage and motivate students. Adaptable and Resilient: Comfortable working across different subjects and year groups, with the ability to quickly learn new material and adjust teaching approaches accordingly.
