Job Profile As a Biomedical Scientist you will carry out technical and scientific work in the laboratory under the direction of the Chief/Senior Biomedical Scientist or Consultant mainly in the Histopathology departments. Key Duties • To assist the senior biomedical scientists in carrying out the routine tasks such as: • Embedding, microtomy, special staining, immunohistochemistry, specimen handling, biopsy/small tissue transfers, frozen sectioning, internal quality control checking of stained slides and Cytology processes (Gynae and Non-Gynae). • To follow policy and procedures at all times. • To process internal and external quality assurance. • To assist in the evaluation of new equipment and method verification. • To assist in the maintenance of stock control. • After documented training and competency assessment, to operate and maintain the analytical equipment and perform testing in the section. • To participate on a rotational shift pattern in all areas of routine and specialised laboratory bench work (Mohs technique if fully trained). Skills & Experience • HCPC post-registration histology laboratory experience • Experience of UKAS requirements • Excellent laboratory bench skills in routine histology tasks such as: • Embedding, microtomy, special staining, immunohistochemistry, specimen handling, biopsy/small tissue transfers, frozen sectioning and internal quality control checking of stained slides. • Experience in using a LIMS system and patient data entry.
